MURAL – Youth and Rec Center

THE STORY BEHIND THE MURAL

The mural, “Beautiful Morning in Murphysboro,” was designed to extend Carl Lee Park visually. The curvature of the arches reflects the repetition of the curves of the band shell, the sidewalks, and the concrete ledge around the fountain. The mural adds architectural interest and visually draws the eye into an atmospheric space. From the street, the canopy of the trees on the next block appears to be the tops of the trees in the mural, giving it realism. It’s a bit real, whimsical, colorful, painterly, and like a Disney movie set that draws the eye in and makes you feel you could step into it.
