MURAL – 15TH AND WALNUT

THE STORY BEHIND THE MURAL

The sixth mural commissioned by the Revitalize62966: Art in The Community committee combines three works from the artist’s Shawnee series of linoleum-block prints, originally made to celebrate the beauty of Southern Illinois by showing people of all ages enjoying our unique natural areas. The little girl on the trail is the artist’s daughter; the person in the kayak is the artist’s mother. Maintaining the black-ink-on-white-paper aesthetic of traditional block printing creates a striking contrast from afar, with the perspective and scale producing an immersive experience.
